With a contract extension looming in the near future and an untested rookie Hendon Hooker waiting in the wings, would you trade Goff in the offseason for a mid-to-late 1st round pick?

If we extend him and have to pay him we’re probably looking at being married to him for another 4 years at $40-45 million/year.

If we don’t extend him we’re rolling the dice on a 26 or 27 year old rookie QB who played in a weird college offense, but would have money to sign our other players at least until 2028 when Hooker’s rookie contract ends, assuming that he’s the answer. If Hooker is not the answer, then we enter quarterback purgatory in 2024. Prior to drafting Stafford in 2024, the Lions suffered a decades’ long cycle of quarterback suckage and mediocrity newer fans may not remember. Do we want to risk that when we could resign Goff?

Would you trade Goff for a mid-late 1st round pick?

No, I’m not making that trade. It’s much easier to get worse at quarterback in this league than it is to get better. Hendon hooker is a complete unknown, and Goff, though imperfect, is still a very good quarterback when he has time to throw.

    Absolutely not.

People are delusional if they think we should even consider going forward with Hooker as the starter over Goff.

He is and will remain our starting QB and will signs big contract with us this next offseason.

We have a guy that has shown he can play top 5 QB play and just because he’s had a bad couple of weeks - which happens to all QBs - y’all wanna dump him? This is why BH is the GM and you’re not.
