I am curious as to what you guys think about Coach D currently. Expectations are obviously changing, as as expectations change, opinions can change along with that.

How do you think Coach D will be viewed at the end of the season?
I’ll weigh in with my opinions in a bit, but don’t want to sway the answers with my thoughts in this post.
Best coach in Thunder history. Those complaining about weird rotations don’t realize we’re throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks. Not that big of a deal

I think is is very good at player development. Small sample size so far in a more maximization of wins role. He seems to have the ability as a “maximizing wins coach” but he has had some questionable moments in about 1/4 of the games. In the other games much more consistent.

Slightly. I’m not “down in him” but he has made a few mistakes that I didn’t expect him to make, especially in the first few games.
-
Being willing to play rookies in veteran situations. Playing rookies in crunch time. Trusting his eyes on playing Cason in crunch time.
-
Lindy Waters game. Starting and playing Josh Giddey so much. To his credit he is not playing Giddey much closing the game out except for inbounding the ball which is fine.
-
I think Coach D seems to be a good coach (excellent developmental coach) that is allowing the evidence to dictate how to play players. I can’t tell if he has a blind spot with Giddey or just trying to make the #6 overall pick pan out.
My best guess is that even with a few warts he is a coach of the year candidate so long as SGA, Chet, JDub and Joe stay healthy.

He does great experimental stuff. I love the on-jon learning opportunities he’s been getting, and it’s all changing with the expectations, and it’s a huge reason why we’re where we are, whilst having huge upside. Gotta give credit to the playbook as well, love the rotations on both sides of the ball.
Overall Coach D is a positive but at times the O looks a bit stagnant. Not sure if that’s coaching or execution.
I think it’s execution, and the telltale sign for me is that it’s coming down the stretch, and into the third, or with specific personnel. That’s just my guess though
He’s the best coach this franchise has had since I’ve been a fan, and I’ve been a fan since the George Karl 90’s Sonics days.
I like him
I like his perspective on learning how to coach Chet and integrating him into the team. He knows he doesn’t know things and I think that’s a sign of intelligence.
He calls for a lot of plays, has good post timeout plays, and kills it on the challenges.
His tinkering with the lineups don’t always yield the best result, and I don’t think we’re to the point where the best result is necessarily the goal.
I think it’s clear, especially in retrospect, that he executes legitimate game plans. Guard to guard pick n rolls, Chet/Shai two way game, feed Chet in the post, allow Dub to be the man for stretches, Shai + shooters. They are all things he’s tinkered with and will keep them in his back pocket for when it is time to win.
I like Daigs. He’s a good players coach.
