After the “hype train failure” thread blew up on here, let’s have some positivity! What games did you go in with negative expectations, only to get absolutely blown away? Were you a non-believer and a cynic? Or was everyone expecting a failure?

For me, it was Ghost of Tsushima. Despite the acclaim, I saw it as an Assassin’s Creed knock off and never bothered to play it. Plus I knew someone who’d complained about the side content, and I’d seen articles where people complained about the historical inaccuracies. Saw a copy someone had tossed in the bins (along with a few other games), ans gave it a go. Fell in love. Platinumed the game, couldn’t put it down. What a fool I was for not enjoying it sooner.

If im remembering right, Shu Takumi (the creator of the series) left to go work on the Professor Layton crossover and Capcom started to do a PW sequel without em. This is presumably why PLvsPW, and the Great Ace Attorney which was also made by Takumi, had a mechanic where you can talk to the jury directly; its something Apollo Justice was setting up and was consequently ignored in Duel Destinies.

I really liked Athena and I think she should’ve been the focus of Duel Destinies. Phoenix, Ironically, has the least connection to the main plot of the story so it just feels like Capcom went “aye, people didnt like Apollo. BRING PHOENIX BACK! THAT WAS CLEARLY THE PROBLEM!” when it wasnt. Its also why the explanation for the Black Psyche lock in Duel Destinies doesnt really line up with what situation they appeared in in Apollo Justice.
