This was one of things I always disagreed with was Shanahan switch to 3-4. Why toss away a pretty decent 4-3 defense. Never got the proper players and defense sucked the whole Shanahan/Gruden era.

Even 2020 defense was kind of mirage. We all know our defense used to feast on dregs of the NFL. Not this year with Devito roasting us. But 2020 was covid and injury year playing Mullens, Dalton, Dinucci, Rosenfeld, Rookie Hurts, Washed Wentz, injured Wilson and etc.

2022 was our best Ron team and it was limited by QB play. Either Wentz sucking or Heinicke playing conservative or sucking. Those games where Heinicke was winning the job were our best.

So what are you expections now? Will getting rid of JDR turn around the defense?

It’s irrelevant to the conversation besides the beginning of the bad defense. Shanahan decides to do 3-4 which required rebuild and players out of position.

But the nose tackle and how defensive ends work still makes a difference in the NFL
