I do agree that players are slowly starting to figure him out, but he is still the best player of this generation. He is going to have a nice rivalry with Sinner. This era is not weak at all. These young guns play without fear.

I’m just hoping Rune keeps up the higher level of play and his back isn’t a recurring issue. With those three competing, add in Shelton and maybe a couple others to the mix, the ATP tour will be really solid.

Agree to disagree. Dude beat Novak at one of the most prestigious slam less than 5 months ago. He’s injured. Becker’s take suffers from recency bias.

Eta: i can’t stop giggling about the tweet below by facettesparis thinking it was related and the ferocious feline was becker or alcaraz

Everyone is calling him figured out/washed/peaked too early and the spotlight is not on him at the moment and he’s going to go into AO all chill like he did at Wimbledon lol

Carlos has two slams and a year end #1 and people are already saying he’s being replaced by Sinner and Rune… who have a grand total of one GS semifinal between them 😭

He’s clearly struggled slightly since Wimbledon but I think people should look at Nadals 2005-2007 years and Novaks 2008-2010 years and Federers pre-2003 years and realize they were losing a lot of matches besides to just each other as well and they weren’t winning every tournament they entered at 20 years old.

I’m kinda glad he had a relatively bad second half of the season tho cuz I do think he needs to work on his backhand in general as well as rally tolerance and shot selection and I think Becker and others saying things like this is gonna give him a lot of motivation (although I think he already has a lot of inner motivation already).

Whether or not he’s right it’s just a great sign for the sport we are having this conversation. The golden era is about to end yet tennis seems to be consistently competitive, both men’s and women’s.

Recency bias, I don’t pay heed to it.

Alcaraz is just a little exhausted after the long season. Time off will help him recover physically and mentally. He’ll be back in 2024.
