I am not entirely sure why the Sixers signed him if he is not going to play at all. He is not going to take away Embiid or Reed Minutes, so then where does he fit in? Is there a way to play him instead of Morris for back up minutes. He is only 25 and statistically, is not a bad player. He gets boards and and can shoot a little for a big.

He’s the “break glass in case of emergency” center. Otherwise he will be the last man on the bench and only get rare garbage time minutes.

He was signed to take a chance on a flyer who was extremely long and athletic and has shown in the past that he may be a reliable there point shooter for a backup big, not to mention he’s friends with Embiid. It was a low risk, high reward signing that just didn’t work out.

Yes, when Embiid is resting and Reed gets into foul trouble, or when both are in foul trouble, or when Embiid is out for a game and Reed starts. He’s the 3rd best center on the team, and frankly may play a little better than 3rd, but he’s still rough.

I mean the fact that we played Minnesota, a team who has two bigs in their starting lineup, and we were down our starting big and our second big was in foul trouble and Bamba STILL didn’t play any meaningful minutes was the nail in the coffin. If you don’t see the floor in that situation than I’m sorry, you’re out

He’s the 3rd Center. Your #3 Center generally doesn’t play. They signed him because his 3 point shooting is good for a C so he can space the floor and can give teams a different look than Paul Reed. But Reed is a much better defender, much better rebounder, and much better in the paint so the Sixers would rather use him when Embiid is off the court.

He was a safety-net that was dependent on A LOT of things –

    1. How long the Harden dilemma was going to be.
    2. If he was needed in a package.
    3. The return from the trade.
    4. How well those pieces meshed with the rest of the team under NN.
    5. His development under NN’s coaching staff.

It just so happened that the pieces LAC sent back fit almost perfectly with the rest of the team (sans Morris) off the jump, under NN, that Bamba was pretty much an after-thought.

Now that Oubre is injured however, Bamba needed to seize this opportunity to gain minutes over Morris, but unfortunately those “complacency” labels about him that he tried to remove from his appearance on RTRS are showing to be true.
