Most of us — myself included — have wanted this for years and it seems like we’re finally getting it if AG’s post-game presser is anything to go by as AG said Giannis requested to guard Embiid.

This is the third time in 6 months that Giannis has made remarks about guarding the ball more often. If you’ve been a Bucks fan since 2019, then you know how surprising that is considering that Bud’s game-plan was for Giannis to do the exact opposite.

Like I said, I and many others have wanted this for years. He guarded Embiid much better than I thought he would have.

Most coaches don’t put their best players on each other defensively, because of the need for the energy on the offensive end. You are also risking getting your best player in foul trouble which could take them out of the game. Not to mention taking the physical beating and the injury risk.

I love it and have wanted it for years. Bud should have let him do it. If he wants to take the assignment then let him do it.

Dame allows this to happen. Previously, he was expected to do too much on offense to also defend the other team’s best player. I like the idea of starting him guarding the weaker front court player and then switching to guarding the hot hand in the 2nd half if it’s a favorable match-up.

i feel great. giannis is the best 2way player in the league, so defending the best players wont be a problem ( especially now when jrue left, giannis might have to take that respobsibility a bit more)

also, giannis is never the type who only plays offense, he has never been someone who doesnt take defense seriously. so i believe he is open to this

last but not least, before the addition of dame, giannis has to be the best scorer/ the engine of the offense, but now with dame, we dont have to worry too much about the balance between offense and fefense for giannis

I trust the coaches that they will know how to utilize him. Even if that means having him mostly roaming/free safety and throwing him at stars to make them adjust, or even guarding a player for the whole game if offense is not a problem without much of his contributions, or things remain as is. Coach made a point to film and study the opponent, making adjustments, etc, so having many options and trying stuff in the regular season is very good.
