I haven’t followed the team too closely this year, but I watched a few games recently (Boston, @ Indiana, and Chicago) and thought Dennis looked awful on defence based solely on the eye test. I read through some of his stats but admittedly don’t really know how to interpret them (especially the advanced numbers). Any thoughts? Is he as bad on defence as I think? I generally like what he brings otherwise.

No one is really answering your question so I will respond briefly. First, advanced stats for defense are not necessarily accurate and take a long time to stabilize. That said, his rebounding and steals as counting stats and % are not great. His dws is not great for his career and dropped this yr. His dbpm is a career negative and he’s on par with that number this yr. I’m not gonna dig deeper into other advanced stats like drpm, etc. I’d suggest you ask guys that have access to more advanced stats and use it regularly as part of their criticism, like Blake, Dan Hackett and Samson. I will say that his stats bear out my eye test - he’s not really a huge negative like greivis but he’s also not a positive defender in ways that Fred and Kyle could be either.
