News like this is a sobering reminder of the risks these guys take playing the game we all enjoy. Hope he continues to get better and make a comeback when he’s healthy and able to do so 🤞
A response from one of the many twitter docs Tom Christ, PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT
“Cervical discs are one of my favorites to treat clinically.
The weakness is secondary to the disc material compressing the nerve in the neck rather than true muscle weakness. In order to regain strength the nerve needs to be offloaded, which is done with various positions and exercises.
The timetable is variable. I’ve seen these clear up in a few treatment sessions, and I’ve seen them linger for several weeks.
This report says most the strength has returned, but risk for re-injury persists for several weeks.
Does not need to be season ending, but if rushed back too soon it can get worse”
Always take these takes with scepticism. Maybe trying to relate it to something more relatable like sciatica (could be widely off base here so complete guess), which can linger past 6 weeks and be prone to re herniating due to the weakened body which takes longer to heal than the initial symptoms
It sounds like something I dealt with like 6 years ago except it was my right side. Required surgery for me and even now I’m not perfect.
I’m also not a massive genetically superior human with access to the best facilities out there. So hopefully it goes better for DJ
