Don’t get me wrong, over the past few weeks, I’ve come to appreciate some of Havertz’ qualities. He’s obviously a useful player to have in the squad.

I think there are 2 traits that he really excels at:

  1. He is big and can win aerial duels.
  2. He is a versatile midfielder. He can play a more advanced 8, as well as drop back into a double pivot when needed.

Other than these two traits, I don’t think Havertz has much going for him.

So I got to thinking, who else has these traits? Well, McTominay is also big and wins aerial duels. He also can play a more advanced 8 or a double pivot. And you might laugh, but I legitimately think they’re about the same level of quality.

McTominay is on £60k a week…

We are really paying Havertz quadruple McTominay’s wage to do exactly the same things McTominay does. Furthermore, McTom has scored 3 goals this season to Havertz single pity-penalty.

As I said at the beginning, I actually think a player of Havertz’ type is welcome in the squad. He is useful, and has put in a decent shift whenever he’s been called upon.

However, Arsenal is certainly not using its resources appropriately. Havertz is incredibly overpaid in wage and it was a bad decision to sign him.
