We just witnessed another Bills heartbreaker, and I can’t help but look at McDermott’s questionable coaching decisions. His tendency to play a soft “not to lose” defense in critical moments proves costly again.

Taking a knee with 20 seconds left, a timeout in hand, and Josh Allen on the field? Unbelievable. Not to mention the timeout he wasted to “ice” the kicker. We’ve got one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in the league, and he’s not allowed to make a play to win the game? That’s 100% on McDermott.

In OT, it’s the same story. 4th & 6 from the Eagles 22: opting for the field goal instead of going for it was a surrender move. We needed a touchdown to win the game, not a field goal, and playing it safe in that situation just handed them the opportunity to tie it up.

Then he called a soft zone on 3rd & 4, giving the Eagles way too much space, further highlighting McDermott’s reluctance to take risks in crucial moments. We could’ve forced a field goal attempt, but instead, he played scared. McDermott doesn’t seem to have that killer instinct in clutch moments.

Even more frustrating is that there’s no sign of learning from mistakes. There was no attempt at something different, just the same predictable, conservative play-calling. That’s not the mark of a coach who will take us to the next level.

I hate to say it, but if McDermott doesn’t step up and reverse the trend of poor in-game coaching coming out of the bye, he might find himself looking for a new job this offseason. These repeated failures in clutch moments are just not acceptable.

Agree with most of this, but going for it on 4th and 6 from the 22 instead of forcing the eagles to score a TD to beat you is absolutely not the right call

I’m usually with you on that, but what had our defense shown in the 2nd half that leads you to believe they could stop them from scoring?

Time and again we’ve lost games with our best player on the sidelines because our coach is a choke artist.

McDermott and Gabe Davis need to be shown the door. This franchise cannot handle another McDermott loss like this. And the game could have been won but for another Gabe Davis miscommunication.
