This may be a wayyy out there thought but it’s a thought that popped into my head that I think could work well for us. Say the patriots end up with pick #1 and take Williams what happens to Mac Jones?

Next year is his last year on contract. I highly doubt we could swing it with our cap situation and such but just hypothetical I would be down to drop Russ before we owe him more guarantees trade for Jones for like a 4th or something and give him a chance when he actually has WRs and a Oline.

Mac seems like he is a system QB but he has had some of the worst WRs in the league his whole career, and their oline has been struggling. I feel like him and Payton with a roster that actually has some offensive firepower could be some secret magic. And if it worked out we could sign him prolly on like a 4yr/160M maybe cheaper and have a good enough QB that we picked up for a 4th. I could just be crazy but I think Mac would work magic here. Dobbs even I think both of them would give Payton more ability to run the offense he truly wants to run, I think we can all admit that Payton’s offense is not the dink and dunk offense that we are seeing it’s what we saw the first couple weeks but Russ was not able to be successful in that offense.

Not a Russ hate post I am just still not convinced he’s our guy especially for what we are going to be paying him and I would say Payton is prolly thinking the same thing after having to modify the scheme to a more simple and mistake minimizing offense to meet Russ’s abilities.

You’re delusional and your replies to others suggest that you are Mac jones’ relative. He’s pedestrian or average at best and not someone to hand the keys to. And he just got benched for a no name backup. Give this idea a break and please for the love of Gawd, stop smoking or taking whatever illicit drugs you’re on because nothing else explains your delirium….literally, nothing.

Matt Jones is the epitome of worst decision any - any organization could make. I wouldn’t take that asshat if they gave me money. Who would ever want a ball punching, holier than though pull in their franchise.

Only if he came here and balled of course not at his current rate, I’m not sure how 5th year options work when a player is traded but could activate that if possible and have 5yrs at 40M or less a year would keep us extremely competitive as far as cap tables go. If he came here put up 3.5K+ yards 25+TDs at a 2:1 TD:INT I think that’d be reasonable

I’m glad you are “down to drop Russ before we owe him more guarantees…” but that’s not what guaranteed means.

There is salary that becomes guaranteed if he’s rostered at the start of the season next year. But it was a hypothetical anyway even saving that it’s massive cap hit
