Won 2 games we should have won and lost 2 games most expected to lose……we cant draw any considerable conclusions yet. Cant even judge the OC ……everyone is green, so you expect errors.
Errors in decisions, errors in play calls, errors in execution, errors in game planning……the only place we can have any reasonable expectations is the defense where we still have our old coordinator.
Im not saying AOC is it (his pocket movement is currently broken) or AP (odd in game decisions) but they are where we expected them to be……no more, no less.
The remaining strength of schedule is tough ….but has winnable games so that’s really where we can evaluate both the coach and qb.
I’m just wondering if AP is ready to be a full-time NFL head coach. His knowledge of the game and ability to inspire grown men are obviously there.
But the reality is, his NFL coaching experience is 1 season as a LB coach.
Demeco Ryans was an NFL coach for 6 years under Shanahan before going to Houston.
Dan Campbell coached in the NFL for 10 years before taking the Lions job.
Even Vrabel coached for 4 years.
Yeah AND Josh McDaniels won multiple superbowls! Like I don’t think that matters at all. The fact of the matter is, it shouldn’t be looked upon negatively to lose to the best offense in the NFL and Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. It all depends if the team is improving week to week. Which it looks like it is, just because you lose a game doesn’t mean it wasn’t positive to the long term. The Raiders kepts the Fins competitive and looked great in the first quarter vs. the chiefs with a rookie QB and rookie coach. So I’ll take it. I think Pierce if he can win a couple more games earned a shot for at least one half season next year.
I feel this but I wouldn’t mind giving him a year when we just saw what Josh did with the team. I feel like this guy will build something and without a ton of film on his own schemes that could really help out next year.
We need to bring in an OC that is hunting for an HC position. Promote the OC if AP ain’t it or let the OC walk after we win a SB. It’s all in the cards
AOC is a serviceable backup and AP has the fire but not the experience or development that a head coach needs. He can get there but 4 games in with a severely limited roster is a lot of challenge for an interim head coach.
I generally agree with you, but I disagree with “expected to lose”
If you go by expectations, we’re a bottom tier franchise. We’re not expected to win many games at all. So we’re going to have to start winning games we’re not expected to win, or else there’s no real point to any of it
A thing about AOC is his passing tends to be fairly receiver friendly - short ones are generally allow for YAC and long ones often placed over the correct shoulder of the defender. If you can do those two things there is something to work with.
A thing that always bugged me about Carr was the awkwardness of many of his west coast offense type passes, its tough to catch, turn and run when the ball is 18 inches over your head, on you toes or in the space you just left.
I’m torn,…. I want AOC for sure, what his long term role is up in the air, his accuracy is great most of the time and should improve but his pocket movement and footwork needs improvement. I want Pierce to stay, but I don’t think that’s the best long term decision as HC. As far as Bailey just don’t see it, I’d like him to stay on the scouting staff but not as GM even if Pierce gets the HC job.
