I think it was a very plausible plan. It is the reason they opted to move on from Carr …as they were confident in their plan.
Otherwise, why would they not keep Carr until they could find a better alternative? Now we have a massive problem at QB as Garoppolo is not the long-term answer and AOC, in reality, is more likely to not be the answer.
A bird in hand is more valuable than two in the bush.
I was neutral on Carr, so it’s not coming from a perspective where I thought Carr was an amazing QB that still had potential. What you saw was about as good as it was going to get with him.
The problem is that Carr was going to cost twice as much as Jimmy and they didn’t see him as twice as valuable.
They tried to trade up for CJ Stroud but the Panthers were willing to give up a lot more. Jimmy was actually the 4th best option.
It’s their fault for knowing Jimmy is who he is but I do think it’s noteworthy that they would have kept Carr if Brady wasn’t in the picture, and they would have taken CJ over Jimmy if they could have gotten to him.
