Keep in mind our 2024 1st is top 18 protected (Heat/Lakers drafted 18 & 19 last draft, for reference). You cannot trade this pick, or the 2025/2026 1sts, due to protections.

That’s a .400 record, which would be double the previous year. That’s a massive YOY increase, even if DET still ends up 1-18 and keeping the FRP.

The concern going into next year is ending up under the floor. So ideally you are looking to move any expiring contracts for players under contract, so that you don’t end up in a situation like HOU where you have to “overpay” for the available FA’s, that you end up stuck with, because those contracts are above market.

If you are adding a FRP and 2RP, DET still needs like another $40M-ish of payroll just to stay over the floor. So can you look to take on some bad money for another year or two until youngun’s contracts come up? Or, do you offer like Harris, Wiseman, Burks, Morris, and Hayes 1+1 TO contracts to get up over the floor / to the cap where you can use a mid-level?
