Lots of people want David Tepper to sell the Carolina Panthers. Be careful what you wish for. I will have no interest whatsoever in the Saint Louis or Toronto or London Panthers. The stadium is not new and isn’t a dome, the city lacks the hotel capacity to host a super bowl, the roster is lacking in both marketable stars and the means to fix that, fan attendance is dwindling, regional TV coverage is shrinking, and national media attention is negligible. A new owner would have few if any reasons to leave the team in Charlotte. As frustrating as he has been as an owner, the one single thing he’s done right so far is to keep the Carolina Panthers in the Carolinas.
Has he been doing right by Carolina? Fighting with Mecklenburg county over public funds and scamming Rock Hill out of public funds.
“the roster is lacking marketable stars” Did you forget we traded away all our star players for peanuts.
I dont care if he moves the team at this point, tepper took some pointers from the former san diego chargers, demoralize the fan base before moving the team.
Oh we dont get to pay 80$ for upper bowl tickets (face value) and 40$ for parking, 15$ for a beer thats half foam… a 10$ cold bojangles sandwich.
We better stop criticizing tepper before its too late, pfft.
The only thing keeping Tepper in the Carolinas is not having a better place to go. It would cost him a lot of money to move the team and there are no more sure-fire markets out there. If you think he has some kind of loyalty to the Carolinas, you’re wrong.
I never said Tepper is loyal to the Carolinas, and I agree with you, the reason the Panthers are still there is purely economic based on sunk costs and nowhere else to go. However, a buyer from another city with a pre-existing stadium could move the team during the offseason.
This “be careful what you wish for” idea is akin to your minimum wage job threatening you with a write-up for not wearing enough flair.
