I’ve been playing this game for six years, and I’ve never gotten it right a single time—not even by accident. Yet, somehow, there are people who can ping the right one every time.
How do they do it?
educated guessing
As an Ashe main, I just AA Shaco once and check for Frost Shot passive debuff OR I noticed that one of the Shaco was dealing extremely low damages for his build
Aside from debuffs and awkward movement on the clone like many have already pointed out…
IMO the easier way is to figure out what the real Shaco would be doing. Anything opposite that means it’s the clone.
A real Shaco that’s about to die won’t be running towards you unless in very limited situations (e.g. you’re both near death). And even in those situations, they likely won’t be doing that immediately after coming out of stealth; instead they’ll attack you and thus come out of stealth. Most of the time the real Shaco is about to die, they will be trying to play safe, or in high risk/reward situations, they’ll try to flank you while you kill the clone Shaco.
If a Shaco is about to die, they may send their clone in an opposite direction to make you guess 50/50. Only the best Shacos will mind game you, and send their clone to the safer direction. Sometimes they’ll just use the fake Shaco to bodyblock or hover right over them to make it harder to target them.
Just check the order of buffs in his stats. iirc the smite one appears in a different place and the smite icon always is in the same place for normal champions. This is tbh the easiest way to find out for me if you’re quick enough
See how they move also if you apply certain things to shaco before like ignite or a burn effect these don’t always follow through onto the clone
I mainly play sej and malzahar, my passive and dots always mark the real one.
