    Not against Dominic Thiem.

    Against Zverev, absolutely.

I have noticed that Zverev plays much better when opponent plays their best tennis/Big 3, because he has nothing to lose maybe, less pressure. If it wasn’t for Domi’s injury at the final Zverev might have not choked the win. Dude just doesn’t believe in ugly wins.

Thiem was a bad matchup for Federer in his mid-late 30s. When he was an underdog without the expectation to win, he managed to push Djokovic to 5 sets at AO, so he would’ve given Fed a tough fight there.

Also, Federer was pretty inconsistent at USO in his 30s, I wouldn’t be surprised if he got upset early, especially at age 39.

Probably not. He hadn’t won there since 2008 and it’s not like he was losing to only Rafaole (in fact he never played Rafa there, lost to Nole 3 times post-2008) in those years. I think somebody would’ve probably got him at that point in his career, definitely Thiem would be the favorite if they met before the finals. If he somehow gets to the final then he probably would’ve beaten both Thiem and Zverev given they handled the moment horrifically and he’s an experienced champion but I doubt his ability to get to that final.
