I’m looking for options on ducks specifically. As in the bird. What’s your hottest duck take?

That although the ducks at the duck pond are free and can be taken home… Its difficult to keep them at your home unless you have a tempting duck habitat i. e. a pond and lots of grubs, worms and reed plants.

Please don’t take the free ducks home if you plan on keeping them in your spare room. They will not be happy and will let you know this in there own duckish manor.

I was shocked when I learned that male ducks have corkscrew penises and that ducks mostly reproduce through gangrape 😳

These facts changed my opinion of ducks

That’s not really a controversial opinion. It would be controversial to say: “don’t judge an entire species that acts out evolved behaviors and instincts based on human concepts!” People often justify hunting a species to extinction based on having anthropomorphized them first and identified a “character flaw”. They are wild animals, literally and officially dinosaurs. It’s your own fault for seeing them as cute little disney characters in the first place. I mean, many species (including humans) literally kill babies of other animals and eat them raw. I don’t do that and don’t eat meat, but I can still appreciate cats, who do.

The corkscrew penis is wild because I’m under the impression that it evolved that way so that it would be harder for the female ducks to escape, that is so fucked up.

I witnessed this once at a lake in New Zealand, when a bunch of ducks were gang raping this one female. My girlfriend at the time demanded that I go into the lake and try and break it up.

Yeah nah, that’s their hood. I ain’t getting involved.

          Their mating ritual is brutal

Dragonfly mating is a competitive “contact sport” where a male identifies a female, subdues her in flight, and then links to her so they form a wheel formation to mate. Because females may mate with multiple partners, males may also scoop out or remove earlier sperm and guard the female afterward.

The first step in the mating process is for the male dragonfly to subdue the female. The typical scenario looks like this. While in flight, the male approaches the female from behind, grabs hold of her thorax with his legs, and sometimes bites her in an effort to quickly subdue her. Pulling his abdomen forward, he uses his anal appendages (cerci) to hold her by the neck while continuing to fly with her in a formation referred to as tandem linkage.

The Dragonfly Mating Game - A Contact Sport

  • That they don’t rape anything. They mate in the way they’ve evolved to, and that any human calling it rape is a moron.

Also, it is overrated on the plate. Good, but not so good that it merits the insanity some folks apply to it. However! I am still happy for anyone to enjoy it for themselves! I’m talking only about the pop culture side of things where it gets hyped beyond realism.

It is a true joy in life to sit back and enjoy a duck butt when you’re sitting by a lake and one does that little flip-dunk.

I think ducks are great for their respective eco systems and I appreciate them as wild animals in a violent state of nature despite knowing about the off putting way they reproduce.

I always wonder about the context of this exchange… What’s the scenario in which pointing out the existence of legs convinces someone that they are in fact looking at ducks?

You’re chilling with your buddy and see duck shaped objects in the distance. From your vantage point, the uniquely distinct itty bitty legs of the ducks are clearly visible and the facthood of the ducks (duckhood) is undeniable to you. Your much taller buddy cannot see the legs from his angle and thus a legend is born.

Duck eggs > goose eggs. Even though they’re smaller, the flavour and texture is better. Goose eggs are overrated.

Following winkly’s comment, my most controversial take was when I saw a male duck really going for it, I said: ‘that duck is really trying to rape the female.’ And he just looked at me for a few seconds and just went wut, ‘They’re ducks…’
