Perhaps they should consider making good Sonic games, rather than bad ones.

A freshman team made up of fan game devs should not be drastically outperforming Sonic’s own internal studios in making an Actually Good Sonic Game.

Imagine if Mario fan games were clearly superior to Wonder or Odyssey, it would mean Nintendo was a fucking joke. That’s where Sega is, and has been for a long time.

I actually enjoy the game, but it had a terrible launch. 90% of the negative reviews on Steam mention “Epic Games”, because at launch even if you bought it on Steam, you were required to use it for online. When you first launched the game, seeing at Epic Games popup gave me a huge negative impression.

Then the two other weakest aspects are the music and bosses. The “Genesis” sounding music sounds like they were Sonic 4 reject tracks, I have no idea why they were even in the game. Next the bosses drag on for so long, they are nothing like the ones of old. Multiplayer seemed to be tacked on at the last moment and “works”, but good luck having fun with 4 players.

The problem is, the game is actually pretty fun to play. The levels are designed well, the characters control well and have proper physics, the chaos powers are fun to use. I feel the game is more creative than Mania in that regard (no more green hill and chemical plant!).

If the game was priced much lower, got rid of the Reject Sonic 4 music and tweaked the bosses to be easier, I can see the game being well-received.

No surprise whatsoever when they launched it close to a concurrent and more popular IP like Mario Wonder and also Spider-Man, on two of sonic main platforms lol its obvious it was going to underperform and they should have analyzed that aspect before setting a release date.
