I’m torn. I don’t think our players are softer than any other players and EB has had an issue of this every place he has worked.

It’s just the mood of the week. I wouldn’t really listen to much of it. People listen to podcasts and literally repeat the people they listen to.

Weren’t there specific complaints about his conditioning and practice structure? I take that combined with all the praise of RR being such a “great guy” to point to our team not being properly challenged for the last 4 years. Yes these guys are professional athletes who don’t need to be micromanaged, but I still think that exposed some of the “do your job” BS Ron had been allowing.

    2022: Total Team Offense 20th, 18.9 ppg: 12th in Rushing/25th in passing

    2023: (12 games) Total Team Offense 12th, 20.5 ppg: 25th Rushing/4th in Passing

Factoring in this is a brand new offense and the total lack of investment in the O-line, I kind of think EB knows what he is doing. I know the popular hot take on this sub is that EB isn’t using our stars to their best effect - but the offense is scoring more points, is higher rated and is top 5 in passing…Howell looks great.

Maybe it is “fake news” and no one is really complaining - but if they are complaining - they are wrong. EB isn’t the problem and he has made the offense better.

It’s a different generation from the one I grew up in. The Bo Schembechler, Mike Ditka, and Bill Parcels (My way or the highway) types of coaching aren’t popular among young players anymore. Coaches now are expected to be more compassionate these days. Some players can tolerate it and some can’t. Coaches are expected to adapt to the players and gotta have the ability to know when to curse and when not to. Some packages you can toss on the porch and some packages you gotta handle with care because it’s glass and it might break. It’s just the way it is regardless of how we feel about it because they’re losing. The sooner we accept it the better off we’ll be! EB will not be here next season.

No… not really. But I also think the EB disgruntled players shit is about moving their off day… which is just such a stupid thing to be still disgruntled about. Maybe this date switch messed up with a few commercials the players had lined up or something? Still… I don’t understand how it is STILL a problem. Until they can show to be winners… they’re just a bunch of losers who don’t know how to win… it’s showed up a few times this year already… they can’t finish.

Is it because he coaches them hard or just because he’s maybe an asshole? Every one of these players played at high levels in college, are all of those coaches just soft? Some of these guys have been coached by Saban, I think acting like these guys have never been coached hard is ridiculous, everyone at the NFL level has been “coached hard” at some point, I think there might be more to this than he’s simply a tough coach that doesn’t coddle people.

This hardly a narrative. Lot of people don’t like EB. Our players are some pissy losers though. They seem content with the losing. Whispers of them wanting Ron to retake control over the things EB has changed doesn’t make me think they aren’t losers

Teams aren’t successful unless the players buy in to the coach in any sport. A lot of that is on the players. However, there’s nothing a coaching staff can do when they have the team turn on them. As an owner you can’t just cut a dozen+ players mid season or after the season (maybe a few), so the only practical thing to do is fire the coach or staff.

While the authority structure should be FO>coach>player, these are (egotistical) adult employees making a living for them and their families. It’s a tough sell to get them to go down with a sinking ship even if they are part of the reason the ship started to sink.

In conclusion the burden is on the coach to adapt to the players, even if it means sacrificing your vision/habits/ego, because the owners will side with the majority of the players over you if the team isn’t successful.

That being said these stories are media getting a dunk in for this embarrassing season. Subpar coaching and subpar players pointing fingers at each other is expected on bad teams. Winning solves everything
