  • Teams aren’t successful unless the players buy in to the coach in any sport. A lot of that is on the players. However, there’s nothing a coaching staff can do when they have the team turn on them. As an owner you can’t just cut a dozen+ players mid season or after the season (maybe a few), so the only practical thing to do is fire the coach or staff.

While the authority structure should be FO>coach>player, these are (egotistical) adult employees making a living for them and their families. It’s a tough sell to get them to go down with a sinking ship even if they are part of the reason the ship started to sink.

In conclusion the burden is on the coach to adapt to the players, even if it means sacrificing your vision/habits/ego, because the owners will side with the majority of the players over you if the team isn’t successful.

That being said these stories are media getting a dunk in for this embarrassing season. Subpar coaching and subpar players pointing fingers at each other is expected on bad teams. Winning solves everything

  • I think we could’ve made something work for Moses, but scherff was not worth what the jags offered for him. We didn’t need to overpay him to keep him. We ended up overpaying on another injury prone OL anyway in Roullier who we also dumped.

The issue was failing to replace him, along with failing to put out league average lineman in at least 3 spots (every spot, depending on how you feel about cosmi/Leno).

While they are bad now, the o line isn’t that far from being decent. Larsen /cosmi are salvageable and we should look to a slight upgrade at one of the tackle spots and shoot for a cornerstone franchise guy in the other.

  • We swung and missed at QB over the years. At least we didnt mortgage our future or capstring ourselves for Jimmy G, Carr, or Wentz, because that’s who we would have ended up with. Howell despite all his issues is a blessing for a 5th round pick. We were also in the hole from Alex Smiths contract and trading for Haskins.

GM is the weakest part of this org but I give him a pass on the QB woes. There’s no excuses for every other issue (bad drafting/roster construction for the most part, coaching issues) though, and they all need to go.

  • The culture stuff is the consolation prize/cope for not having a better on field product. It’s good that a lot of the gross harassment/exploitation was exposed to the public with some people held accountable(to some degree), and we are less of a PR disaster(still a laughing stock), but idk how much credit Ron should get for that as law enforcement/the league/media were coming for us (rightfully so) anyways.

As self serving as it is most fans care about on field success as much as or even more than the culture of the organization.

Like in any other entertainment fandom you’re only as defensible as your last movie/album/work.

When it comes to the on field product, just strictly coaching-wise, we get off to slow starts, have bad clock management/challenges, and make adjustments too little too late.
