Just curious what other people do. I always save and close my games before putting the deck in sleep mode. Not sure why exactly I’m just afraid something will go wrong.

Does anyone leave games open in sleep mode all the time? If so have you ever had any issues?

I always pause the game, then sleep. Occasional audio issues, but mostly those have been when I forgot to pause, and once or twice I’ve had bigger issues where I had to restart the Deck. But those are very infrequent and haven’t happened at all for ages so might have been resolved with a software update at some point.

putting deck to sleep and pick it up continuing playing immediately is one of the core selling points of a handheld

depends on how soon I plan to play it again. but either way I always save before putting it to sleep. rarely have had issues outside of a few rare games having audio issues that require you to restart the game. I even do it with emulators which I’ve seen people claim would crash.

Prior to the OLED, I had always been shutting down my LCD Deck between sessions. Starting with the OLED, while playing Hades (looks great on this new display) I decided to try the direct sleep route (with an active game session). However, I noticed I was getting audio crackles in game, after powering the device back on from sleep.

So, I’ve now just resigned to leaving the game, and sleeping the Deck from the home screen (this doesn’t appear to cause any audio bugs upon restoring).

It absolutely boggles my mind that Valve hasn’t fixed this bug after YEARS.

No, I use it like the switch. I just turn it off and go about my business. No point in wasting time doing that snd then starting them back up.

Complete mixed bag! But I never find out until I pick up the SD for more gaming.

I’ll pick up the deck and go to launch a game, just to have it tell me I’m still playing something else.

It depends, if I know I’m not gonna use it for a bit I’ll close everything to the desktop (I use Windows), but if I’m in the middle of a game and plan to come right back to it, I’ll leave it running.

Nope, I put it to sleep with my game running all the time. I’ve been playing No Man’s Sky, and I wake it up most mornings and evenings to tend to my freighter.

Sometimes the audio gets stuttery after a sleep cycle. Maybe twice over the past year, the deck didn’t wake up and instead rebooted.

I close my games. The deck is good at sleep don’t get me wrong. But nothing beats the psp. You could have a game open and put that thing to sleep for 5 years and the game will continue like nothing happened.

Generally yes, I try and properly shut down the game. Not because I’m worried about it or anything. I do it so that the cloud save syncs just in case I decide to pick the game back up on my PC instead of the deck, which I often do. But putting the deck to sleep while a game is running doesn’t phase me in and of itself.

I have been leaving games in sleep mode since I got my Deck over a year ago. Never had an issue.

    what?
    instant suspend is like
the reason i bought the device

i leave games running for weeks without closing them
press the button, play, press the button, back to work

you’re missing one of the largest selling points of the device IMO
