  • the problem isn’t Steamos or even linux but instead its your understanding of the OS

If I want to use proton for it and either mount or extract a game ISO, that turns into another thing I have to look up and see if it even works for SteamOS.

its literally as simple as using ark to open the iso, extracting the files, and installing via the setup file in lutris.

As another added note: I don’t have the video or instructions, but if you are looking for the folder where the .exe program you installed through proton? Oh, boy.

you literally can set the prefix folder where it installs and the prefix folder has the same exact layout as windows C drive. its really not as hard as you are making it out to be.

  • Cryo himself said he tried to have a technical conversation with him back when CU came out but he was apparently being a total asshole.

wait is this the lie he is spreading to people? if so I’ll expose the chats and show that he could not explain what I questioned and gave basically “it just works” answer to my valid questions. even claims his proof is other people. so please show me where he said this shit and I’ll post the whole chat if its true because fuck him if he is going to play like that just because I call out his lies and showing he doesn’t know as much as he pretends his does.

  • Can SteamDeck substitute for a PC?

simple answer is yes it will be more powerful than any laptop/PC in the same price range. I have a gaming laptop and gamingdesktop but use my steam deck more because not only can it transform into a Laptop, a Desktop, a Console, or just be used as a handheld but I also like having all my data on one portable device instead of having to worrying about having to get it off my other devices. as for your questions

    1. a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard will connect to it easily or if you prefer wired you can get a usb hub. for the screen you would need something with a USB-C to HDMI adapter such as a dock.
    2. depends on the game as well as your knowledge working with files. if you know windows at all it works fairly similar though people for some reason act like it doesn’t.
    3. you can just install browsers like chrome and opera. this isn’t a console and has a full normal Desktop mode
    4. again it has full browsers and full desktop mode. there are also apps like Kodi if you prefer that
    5. depends on the apps really flatpak is the main supported app but you can also use other app formats such as appimages or even .deb. there is also nix support now
    6. as stated before it has a full desktop mode that will let you do that.

  • the only thing that stopped most of my stutters was Cryoutilities 2

    guaranteed to do absolutely nothing.

Has SMT off, Governor on performance and capping CPU GHZ to 3.5 become obsolete or did I do something wrong?

SMT performance issues were fixed in 3.5. governor and changing clock speeds are still what will effect performance the most idk what makes you think they don’t but yet think a placebo app does. even a game like Mario Wonder will see a exponential difference when setting CPU to 3.5Ghz. GPU requirements would depend on the game which in the case of Mario Wonder doesn’t need to be touched

  • but am worried about my lack of knowledge leading to me getting overwhelmed and not enjoying the deck as intended. Any advice?

the real question is if you want to learn or not. realistically you will learn the best through trial and error while the internet will only teach you the very basics. most people here don’t understand most of what the device can actually do and get by with only that basic knowledge though. if you want to do something such as modding though then using google really isn’t the best resource and will make it seem far more of a challenge than it actually is.
