Hello fellow NBA fans! Celtics fan here, looking for advice.

  1. Congrats on an exciting team. It’s been fun watching you guys develop!

  2. For Christmas every year, I get my 9yo son and I tickets to a celtics game. This year I though it would be special to see them play at MSG and make a weekend out of it. After doing some research this is looking like it’ll cost a small fortune.

Does anyone have advice on how to do this trip in the cheap? Tickets, lodging etc.

Thanks in advance.

Like others have said, try lodging in another borough or in Jersey. Unfortunately no way around it costing a small fortune being that it’s NYC and MSG. Hope you guys are able to make it work and have a blast.

You can sometimes find deals on AirBnb because so many New Yorkers leave the city over Christmas, but many have 3 night minimums. If you just want a room for a night check random neighborhoods in Manhattan. I don’t think it’s possible to find a hotel that’s not a direct or at least 1 connection away from MSG on the train. FWIW 60LES is a solid hotel and my kids thought they were fancy staying there when they were 9, even though by NYC prices it’s a fucking deal. Also if you sign up for your mailing list you’ll get codes for like 20%+ off.

Obviously 100% take Amtrak and don’t fly. You could drive, but parking will cost you close to what the train tickets will cost, plus kids love trains.

MSG tickets are going to cost what they’re going to cost, no way around of that. Arrive full, food and drinks there are not inexpensive.

Pizza slices and baconeggncheez and shawarma extend the food dollar considerably and, again, kids love that kind of thing.
