So glad we have tobias making 39 million as the third option to step up for those 12 points and 5 turnovers with only two 3s attempted without Embiid
It was an ugly game but it looks like Nurse is learning the lineups without Embiid. Which is better than our last coach, who just gave up at all times.
I’m usually a Tobias apologist…but 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 turnovers is absolutely atrocious.
Honestly I’m impressed we managed to only lose by 10 tbh. FTC
I had to read the heading twice to make sure I read it correctly.
Ugh. Tobias needs to step up.
Outside of Maxey, Pat Bev and RoCo really put out.
If they removed FT, we won
So, imo, we won this game.
That was certainly a game but a game alright if a game were to game game ya know what I’m saying?
What was the call count? Feels like we got decimated by them bitches
HE CANNOT KEEP PLAYING MAXEY 38 MINUTES A GAME! This game was ESPECIALLY egregious because they were down 20 from the first quarter. At this rate he will literally break Maxey’s body from overwork. You cannot play Maxey 38 minutes in a blowout. God fucking damn it man, every coach in the league has their own stupid idiosyncrasies.
AI played 41 minutes a game, which includes his later seasons. James Harden played 40 minutes a game and was and is an iron man. It’s not that outrageous for guards.
Well, at least they made a run at it. Still shows how much Embiid matters to the team, though.
So the almost comeback, makes it feel weird to grade but here I am to try.
Coaching: D+ Hopefully Nick got the Marcus Morris thing out of his system, because this is insanity. He has like a gazillion other options(none of them particularly good, yes) but none of them as bad as Morris. You probably win the game, if you don’t make that decision.
Also, if he was gonna put Maxey, etc back in, it should’ve been within the 10 minute mark of the 4th, instead it was the 6 minute mark. Those four extra minutes could’ve been huge in the comeback.
All of that to say, Nick Nurse sucks with substitutions. At least, in this whole Oubre being out thing. If Oubre comes back, it might be the last we see of Marcus Morris. I sure hope so.
Players:
Morris: F No one played good defense today, but no one played worse defense than Morris. And since you started at CENTER and the most important thing for a center is defense. F.
Harris: F. 5 Turnovers, FIVE. And save for a bucket or two late, completely useless on the offensive end of the floor. Also didn’t give much defensively.
Melton: D+. I’ve still yet to see a strong defensive game from you. This was your opportunity and between leaving shooters open and also turning over the rock. But you stayed in it, and gave us 17 so not the total flop the other 2 are.
Batum: INC.
Got wrecked by Zion, I don’t know who didn’t. Nurse chose to keep him out of most of the 2nd half. It just wasn’t his kind of game.
Maxey: C+
He could’ve thrown in the towel. But he kept competing and kept coming at you and his second half completely turned around. Shot 10/15 from 2, and was elite finishing at the rim and drawing contact. No calls, but I like the way he redeemed that game in the second half.
Patrick Beverly: B+
Continues to do great things out there. It was hard to see because the game was out of hand, but I thought he finally took a couple of outside shots, played with that energy. Wasn’t enough, but he was awesome out there tonight.
Paul Reed: A+
Easily the best player on the floor for the 76ers. Massive defensive presence and flashes some interesting passing upside(5 AST). The +1 on the +/- doesn’t do it justice. Had he started, the game is different.
Wasn’t Batum injured after like 14 minutes?
Batum re-injured his finger. That’s why he didn’t come back
I agree with most of these ratings but wholeheartedly disagree with the underlying premise of the coach rating. Yes, we were trying to win, but also Nurse had an opportunity tonight to explore and develop Maxey’s potential as a playmaker (and btw, C+? my man had 33) and he took it. I said this below but he but Bamba in before Reed and if that’s not an indication that tonight was a scheduled loss idk what is
none of them as bad as Morris. You probably win the game, if you don’t make that decision.
This is so stupidly wrong
It’s accurate, but you’d have to understand the value of the center position to understand the statement and I already have to do a deep dive on PG, because some fans think 1-on-5 is humanly possible.
Forgettable game all around, credit to Zion tho when he’s hot he’s hot.
Seriously bad officiating as usual
I would be glad to be wrong about Tobias, but this is his sixth year on this team under very different roles and 3 different coaches. He has never been a sustained winning basketball player. He’s invisible when the team needs someone to step up.
He doesn’t hustle, he doesn’t rebound, he doesn’t lock in on defense. He can do all these things, and does it sometimes when he chooses to which makes it more frustrating, but it never lasts. This is why I never feel bad for him, if he played hard like minimum guys like Beverley did, he’d be loved even if he didn’t have the talent to live up to his contract. He chooses not to.
Advanced stats have him as our 5th best player this year, after Embiid, Maxey, Melton and Oubre.
I’m just going to feel better about this team if he’s not there by playoff time. I don’t know what trades are out there, but I’d much rather his salary be used on different players. Contenders simply do not have that much salary wasted on guys who influence the game as little as he does.
he doesn’t lock in on defense
he absolutely clamped Tatum in the Playoffs last year but ok
Nurse put in Bamba tonight literally 5min into the game (and before Bball), which means that tonight was clearly a scheduled loss from the tip. Hope everyone feels better for Friday’s match-up FTC
