It’s accurate, but you’d have to understand the value of the center position to understand the statement and I already have to do a deep dive on PG, because some fans think 1-on-5 is humanly possible.

It has nothing to do with the quality of passer that Maxey is, it has everything to do with gravity. Does Maxey lack gravity? Not really, but the other players DO lack gravity.
No one honestly cares about Batum Beverly or Covington and they definitely don’t care about the two scrub bigs we played last night either.
So when you’re trying to run our actions, here’s a perfect example: Reed in the DHO actions. He actually set some pretty good screens but he’s not Joel so defenses can sag off, and they can also stay on shooters.
It wouldn’t matter if said shooters could actually shoot, but they can’t(The LA game, be damned). Well, can they at least put the ball on the floor and create? LMAO. Spoiler: No they can’t.
So they lack gravity and they lack shooting. And so they will need absolutely perfect conditions in order to produce. That is a fault of theirs, not Maxey.
Like I said, I counted at least 5 passes and probably more(I’ll make a compilation video of said misses, foul calls, etc) because I am tired of what I can only describe as point guard ignorance.
I saw at least 5 passes that went for 0 points because they either missed the shot, or muffled the ball or both.
This isn’t the NFL, completing passes sadly don’t count for points. I wish people understood the PG position better. Haliburton would struggle(to varying degrees) with this non-Embiid roster.
What ‘orchestrate’? Mo Bamba was like 3/7 and I swear all 7 shots were at the rim LOL. Not to pick on Bamba, but he’s just exhibit A. There’s only so much a PG can do when they’re fumbling the ball around(quite literally)
He only had 1 TOV in the entire second half. And he wasn’t ‘hunted relentlessly’. That was our mishmash of a front court(over 70 points allowed in the paint.)
In fact, CJ was meh for most of the night.
And you, among other fans don’t appreciate or understand so I’ll repeat it again: An assist is ONLY a thing, if guys actually hit shots. Which they didn’t.
Because the 76ers lack shooters and spacers, it makes it difficult to attack. That difficulty to attack lead to a lot of turnovers.
Every loss has been the same, whenever the supporting cast needs to step up, they come up small. And some fans think a 1 on 5 game works, it doesn’t.
So the almost comeback, makes it feel weird to grade but here I am to try.
Coaching: D+ Hopefully Nick got the Marcus Morris thing out of his system, because this is insanity. He has like a gazillion other options(none of them particularly good, yes) but none of them as bad as Morris. You probably win the game, if you don’t make that decision.
Also, if he was gonna put Maxey, etc back in, it should’ve been within the 10 minute mark of the 4th, instead it was the 6 minute mark. Those four extra minutes could’ve been huge in the comeback.
All of that to say, Nick Nurse sucks with substitutions. At least, in this whole Oubre being out thing. If Oubre comes back, it might be the last we see of Marcus Morris. I sure hope so.
Players:
Morris: F No one played good defense today, but no one played worse defense than Morris. And since you started at CENTER and the most important thing for a center is defense. F.
Harris: F. 5 Turnovers, FIVE. And save for a bucket or two late, completely useless on the offensive end of the floor. Also didn’t give much defensively.
Melton: D+. I’ve still yet to see a strong defensive game from you. This was your opportunity and between leaving shooters open and also turning over the rock. But you stayed in it, and gave us 17 so not the total flop the other 2 are.
Batum: INC.
Got wrecked by Zion, I don’t know who didn’t. Nurse chose to keep him out of most of the 2nd half. It just wasn’t his kind of game.
Maxey: C+
He could’ve thrown in the towel. But he kept competing and kept coming at you and his second half completely turned around. Shot 10/15 from 2, and was elite finishing at the rim and drawing contact. No calls, but I like the way he redeemed that game in the second half.
Patrick Beverly: B+
Continues to do great things out there. It was hard to see because the game was out of hand, but I thought he finally took a couple of outside shots, played with that energy. Wasn’t enough, but he was awesome out there tonight.
Paul Reed: A+
Easily the best player on the floor for the 76ers. Massive defensive presence and flashes some interesting passing upside(5 AST). The +1 on the +/- doesn’t do it justice. Had he started, the game is different.
De’Anthony Melton’s a fucking scrub
Can we criticize Nurse for not starting the better defensive big? If Bball fouls out, he fouls out.
Nah, the Pelicans are just a pretty good team.
The two man game between these two is unfreaking believable. They bend defenses to their will and as soon as the ball crosses the half court line they are a threat to score.
Yeah, between Kelly and possibly Morris, that’s a lot of bench scoring on the second unit.
What Embiid is doing has been unreal. All summer all both Embiid and Maxey heard is ‘you can’t do this’, ‘you can’t do that’. And all they’ve done is shut up the doubters.
Tobias killing the vibes of an entire half in a way only Tobias Harris can do.
Bev knocking down the 3’s woot.
The Lakers since 2013 have been one of the most dysfunctional franchises in the NBA. How dysfunctional? Imagine not being a contender with LBJ. I’m telling you guys, an opt out is a real possibility.
ZACCHEUS, kid’s been making big time plays all year long
Love the idea of Hayward. Good shooter, good off-ball and secondary playmaker
Time isn’t going to help that pathetic excuse of a lateral defensively. The dude can’t offer any rim protection at 6’10 and laughably is the worst closeout in the league. We could shoot over him and we’re not NBA Players.
Like, you don’t even need +/- to know he’s garbage, just two minutes of basketball is enough.
The Sixers do not have anybody as consistently good as a Jalen Smith on their roster, that’s just an example. We don’t have a Mathurin, etc.
Like those guys on the Pacers can’t defend shit, but they are offensively gifted. We saw Tobi’s weak ass finishing. There’s nothing a Hali can do about that.
Our guys just aren’t as good offensively or defensively across the board without Joel Embiid. No one is clamoring for them in trade talks, no one actually wants these particular players.
A case in point could be made about the guys we let go who are struggling, it’s the Embiid effect.
We’d like to acquire players good enough, to stand on their own. And so far we’ve failed to find guys who have that capability in the NBA.
Which is why Hali would ‘struggle’, these other guys not even in an open gym can make NBA shots. It doesn’t matter who the PG is.
