Maxey needs to improve a lot defensively (the Sixers defense is 18 points better when Maxey is off the floor thus far this season. Its a poor 116 with Maxey on the floor and an amazing 98 with Maxey off the floor) but although he was bad in the first half of today’s game you can’t put the loss on him because he woke up in the second half and was pretty good. That being said we clearly need a natural playmaker when Embiid is out as v Minnesota we scored under 100 points and today no one got a lot of assists.
He played absolutely terribly last game I don’t care what the box score says. He was putrid staying in front of his man and they hunted him relentlessly because he’s so small. Couple it with his turnover problems, and how he basically didn’t organize the offense at all throughout the game, and imo his only positive play at all was the last 5 minutes.
4 turnovers is a fine number for a lead guard, especially when literally no one else on the team can dribble. Not to mention the fact that he’s only averaging 1.4 turnovers per game on the season.
4 turnovers 0 assists isn’t fine icl. But he’s not a natural playmaker so he shouldn’t be expected to average loads of assists especially when the Sixers have a better playmaker on the team cos Embiid is on the roster.
He only had 1 TOV in the entire second half. And he wasn’t ‘hunted relentlessly’. That was our mishmash of a front court(over 70 points allowed in the paint.)
In fact, CJ was meh for most of the night.
And you, among other fans don’t appreciate or understand so I’ll repeat it again: An assist is ONLY a thing, if guys actually hit shots. Which they didn’t.
Because the 76ers lack shooters and spacers, it makes it difficult to attack. That difficulty to attack lead to a lot of turnovers.
Every loss has been the same, whenever the supporting cast needs to step up, they come up small. And some fans think a 1 on 5 game works, it doesn’t.
He didn’t get them looks they would’ve gotten from Embiid let alone an elite playmaker like Harden or Haliburton because he’s not as good at playmaking as they are. Theres a reason why most players on the Sixers effeciency drops in minutes Embiid is off the floor but not when Maxey is off the floor (e.g. Melton, Oubre, Tobias, Batum, etc). But Daryl knows this which makes it even more foolish that he hasn’t tried to trade for a backup PG that’s great at playmaking.
It has nothing to do with the quality of passer that Maxey is, it has everything to do with gravity. Does Maxey lack gravity? Not really, but the other players DO lack gravity.
No one honestly cares about Batum Beverly or Covington and they definitely don’t care about the two scrub bigs we played last night either.
So when you’re trying to run our actions, here’s a perfect example: Reed in the DHO actions. He actually set some pretty good screens but he’s not Joel so defenses can sag off, and they can also stay on shooters.
It wouldn’t matter if said shooters could actually shoot, but they can’t(The LA game, be damned). Well, can they at least put the ball on the floor and create? LMAO. Spoiler: No they can’t.
So they lack gravity and they lack shooting. And so they will need absolutely perfect conditions in order to produce. That is a fault of theirs, not Maxey.
Like I said, I counted at least 5 passes and probably more(I’ll make a compilation video of said misses, foul calls, etc) because I am tired of what I can only describe as point guard ignorance.
Not a “bad look.” Just some banter. If it was legit passionate arguing, that would be another thing.
I thought I was going crazy about how dramatic some people were being
