I’ve seen people worried that having the screen on during downloads will cause burn in. I thought it would be a good idea for them to implement a screen saver when you’re in the Downloads tab. The screen saver would be completely black, except for text that says “Downloading (Progress)” That way the screen would be essentially off, and the user doesn’t have to wake the screen to see how it’s going. The text would also be moving like the DVD logo to move the pixels around.
Go look up the wullf den OLED switch test. He kept it on for years. It took thousands of hours for any noticeable burn in on a static screen. You have nothing to worry about. Enjoy your new toy. Try not to sweat the small stuff.
You can set timer to turn off display in desktop mode. So use desktop mode for long downloads with like 5min auto off timer on display while deck is downloading.
Click the battery icon in the taskbar. Near the top for the pop up menu is a check box that will allow you to keep the deck on until the power button is pressed.
Make sure disable it when done and don’t put it in the case to prevent overheating.
I’m going to say no. Development time is not unlimited and I would far prefer Valve continue to work on things that add real value to the Deck, not something like this.
I always turn the brightness down when I download a game, I hope it is enough to protect the screen🤷🏻♂️
Best thing to do:
Get a dock, plug it into tv or monitor. Then turn off tv or monitor. This way it stays on, but the deck display does not.
