I have alwas been a fan of the BMWs and have always wanted to buy one since YEARS! Finally, the years have reduced to less than 2 now since I am planning to get my first car.

1 know many people would suggest going for more cheaper and reliable cars as my first, but the heart wants what it wants. Having said so, I have read a lot about how the BMWs are called the ultimate money draining machines as they demand very high maintenance. Typically, an average BMW owner spends 25-35% more on maintainance as compared to other brand owners, as per the myriad of blogs and videos that I went through. Is that true?

Considering my budget, I would most likely be going for the 2023 228 Gran Coupe. Or if I stretch a bit, I’d try for the 330i, but no more than that. Are these good options? Realistically, how much would the maintenance cost on these models? A breakdown from the auto experts, BMW owners and fanboys would be great!

BMW are aspirational cars. As a result, they are either not cheap to buy or cheap to maintain. Please don’t buy one now.

As for running costs. Sure, it’ll be more expensive than a more economical car. The brakes are bigger, tires are bigger, oil capacity is larger, .etc. This is all wear and tear items that have a set lifespan.

Recommend setting aside $3k for any car to cover your deductible/unforeseen breakdown, let alone a bmw.
