So we obviously have talked a lot about MHJ for the last couple years and how badly we’d love to get him. At this point we know that’s unlikely. The assumption, recently, is that we’ll still go WR. And while that would be good, I don’t know if we’ll need it now that Downs is actually legit. If we took Nabers or Keon, we’d essentially wind up in a situation where Pitt could be our WR3. And we have two top 10 rushers.

This would be an embarrassment of riches, when we still have nobody who can rush the passer consistently, and haven’t had since Mathis and Freeney. We’re also so short of depth at DB, and we always lose guys. So often you see a guy come in at CB and change the dynamic of the whole Defense. Like Sauce for the Jets.

Someone like Jared Verse or Kool-Aid could land in our lap with the flurry of QBs and Marv JR. at the top. I think we’d be insane to pass on one of these guys. Though admittedly I haven’t looked deeply at the D prospects, because Im guilty of the same. I drool at the thought of AR to Nabers. But we know there’s no point scoring 20-30 a game if your D is wet toilet paper.

Any thought on this?

Pitt is our starting X receiver. Downs is our starting slot. That’s two bona fide receivers. We still need a Z receiver. I look at Pierce as another X who’s not as good as Pitt.

I find it tough to understand why everybody who was jonesing for a receiver when we didn’t have a quarterback is so meh now that we do.

A legitimate threat on the outside would open up this offense. There would be more running room for JT, and many more easy first downs on the outside.

First-round level cornerbacks are the generally the ones who are great in press-man coverage, and we don’t play much of that. We don’t need a first round corner. We need day 2 corners.

If we have a shot at a first round defensive end, then fine. Take the DE.

But I would take an outside receiver over a cornerback in the first round. We want our quarterback to succeed, don’t we?
