Something very interesting came to my inbox this weekend and I am still digesting it.
Volkswagen plans to transfer control of Electrify America to Porsche.
You heard that right.
As part of the effort, Porsche plans a major rebranding of Electrify America under the Porsche brand and exclusive amenities for Porsche drivers.
Amenities include free Wi-Fi and movies at the charging stations.
Some locations will even include a Porsche lounge with coffee.
Reading through the brochure, I saw a mockup of a Porsche charging station that has a striking resemblance to the Electrify America charging station in Baker, CA. The station is, however, branded Porsche and has a lounge. Furthermore, every vehicle at the charging station is a Porsche Taycan.
DISCLAIMER: In no way am I able to confirm any of this information is real. It could be an elaborate fake. (There are just too many talented graphic artists with too much time on their hands.) It could be an old plan that Volkswagen no longer plans to carry out. It could be a trial balloon. It could be something else.
There’s nowhere near enough Porsche EVs in the US for this to make any business sense.
Lol. ‘Hey everyone, here’s completely unattributed rumor with no sourcing whatsoever.’
I’m a journalist, and we get a bad rap for reporting things with anonymous sourcing. But at least we get multiple parties to confirm it to us, even if they don’t want people to know their names, and we give affected parties an opportunity to weigh in. I’d get fired on the spot if I tried to publish this.
Mods should delete ASAP.
Unless you’re able to somehow provide more of a sourcing than I heard a rumor in my inbox…
I’m not giving this anymore thought than the time it took me to comment, and nobody else in this thread should either.
How do we know this isn’t totally a troll post and the email is even real? OP didn’t even provide photos.
Porsche will build their own charging stations, but I highly doubt they will turn an existing EA station into a Porsche station. They have to remain open to all vehicles.
If Porsche plans to transform EA and keep it non-exclusive, I’m all for it.
