Is it to give Sochan skills later down the line that he wont get if he didnt play point guard? If so, how does that work?

It’s to help hopefully make Sochan into a good secondary playmaker. I just hope it doesn’t hurt the development of the other youngins.

KOC has an article about it and makes some really good points. I am not as eloquent as him, but from my understanding they want Sochan to develop as a secondary playmaker and they view him as player than can do multiple things on the court like a DG or a Boris Diaw.

So they put him in those situations with the ball on his hands and force him make those mistakes right now and learn from them so he is ready for that role in the future.

Similar with Wemby, we know he is good near the basket but instead of having him play at his strengths all the time they want him to develop the midrange and his 3 point shots.

It’s only December, this team can still go on a run if Wemby and Sochan improve, and get to the play in. I don’t think Pop is tanking, but rather putting his main two players in situations that allows them to grow.

That, but tanking to draft higher would still be good for the team long-term, so, 2 birds 1 stone.

    Development.

Spurs want sochan to be a point forward, a valuable player archetype. This will likely be in addition to a traditional PG just to make sochan the best player he can be and make our team that much more dynamic. He could develop as a secondary ball handler but putting him as a primary lol handler should theoretically help him develop a lot faster, since he’s getting experience and learning those skills at a much faster pace

Co-sign what others here have said, but also it’s not just about Sochans offensive development

Theoretically, a lineup w Sochan as your lead ball handler should have massive defensive upside. Sochan + Wemby + Dev + two competent to good defenders could be dynamite on defense
