Him and Carra is an unlikely friendship. He’s a clever man is our Gary. I hated him as a player but like him as a pundit and his politics.

First year or two he was quite good, but it has rapidly gone downhill since.

Whenever a team he doesn’t like scores, or anyone scores against Man Utd, he just sits there in silence. You are paid to commentate on the match. SPEAK. You are supposed to be completely neutral but he never is. Him and Micah Richards always find a way to change the subject to Man Utd or City. Carragher does sometimes for Liverpool but nowhere near as much.

Rashford misses an open goal = Glazers Fault Onana let the ball slip through his hands = Glazers Fault Bruno gets sent off because he is a petulant little child = Glazers Fault

Probably the best pundit overall on TV tbh. Really eloquent and able to transpose his own very high level experiences into relevant analysis. Makes interesting points on formations, systems, individual players, etc. Admired him for the way he talked out against the ESL, and also the fact that he was the only pundit last season to have the foresight and the balls to express with good reasons why he felt Arsenal wouldn’t win the league despite having an 8 point lead, and used his own experience of being “hunted” or being the “hunter” in title races, plus relevance of youth/inexperience, to make good points which in hindsight were proven to be correct despite at the time being completely shat on by Arsenal fans in particular. He also makes good calls quite often when he’s the co-commentator.

He does have some flaws. He can be biased (Ole > Conte/Ponchettino/etc). He also seems to now try to temper his views too much probably because of the backlash from Arsenal fans last season and being conscious of reputational damage. As a NUFC fan I hated him for his bias when Steve Bruce was manager here at NUFC and the way he absolved Mike Ashley of blame by saying it was the toxicity of NUFC fans that was our problem, not the fact that Ashley was a terrible owner (far, far, FAR worse than the Glazers, which shows his hypocrisy as he won’t hesitate to call the Glazers out).
