Basically the title. Zenith makes some pretty stellar and innovative watches imo. I also love their history and style. However, the brand recognition outside of watch lovers is pretty dismal. And while I generally buy watches for me, I do want the watches I buy (particularly those I’m paying $5k-10k for) to have some brand recognition among the public. What happened with Zenith in this respect? Or am I giving the public too little credit?
I bought mine 20 years ago. They invented the first fly back Chronograph and the originally provided the movement for the Rolex Daytona. There are lots of watches that still use the el primero movement today. All of that to say I think they make some beautiful watches. I love mine!
Because of Rolex
I had never heard of them until I got into watches. Probably because their name isn’t plastered on billboards and jewelry shop windows and ubiquitous in popular cinema.
Among non watch people? You could say this about every brand besides Rolex. Sad, but true…and I do not own a Rolex, but I do own a Zenith.
Anecdotally, the people in my life who aren’t into watches, when shown a Zenith, feel that the logo and name feel cheap to them
Name sucks… keep thinking it’s a TV
Wellcome to luxury… Brand recognition is determined by marketing and ads. How often do you see a Zenith ad?
The reason people recognise say Omega is because Omega seem to shove ads everywhere you look, billboards, Olympics, James Bond movies and so on. Without that Omega would be less known than Zenith probably.
I wear a Speedmaster, which is basically the most common luxuary watch.
Not once in five years of daily wear have I gotten a comment about it. I don’t really care about that either. Why is the brand recognition so important for you? You need everyone to know you wear a expensive watch? In that case, buy a rolex. But 90% of people will assume it’s a fake:)
Because its not one of the three or four brands normal people know about. Most people don’t care about brands of watches that cost way more money than they would ever consider to spend on a wrist accessory.
