I wasn’t sure about posting this because I didn’t want to kill the vibes, but I think it needs to be discussed. If Levis didn’t ball out, I think Vrabel would have continued switching between him and Malik and today we’d be talking about how absolutely stupid that was. When he said he was going to do it, I think most of us thought he was trolling because of how obviously wrong it is. He shouldn’t get let off the hook for this. I love Vrabel, but that was an absolutely terrible decision and he is lucky Levis pretty much made himself un-benchable or I think we’d be having a very different conversation today. Just had to get this off my chest because as happy as I am that Levis did well, Vrabel was ready to hamper him by killing his momentum and putting in Malik for some unknown reason and I’m still pissed about it.
I mean he literally said as much in the post game presser, this isn’t a grand revelation.
I hated it too but if you’re going to be upset about this you also have to admit the following: vrabel drafted levis and runs the staff that developed levis behind the scenes until yesterday, where the staff he runs out together a game plan that allowed him to chuck 4tds in his first start.
Nothing is ever going to be perfect, gotta live with the good and bad and that’s always easier after a w.
Vrabel is dropping in quality as a coach. I think he is getting tuned out by the players and his ability to motivate players is supposed to be his strength. His blind commitment to Downing was insane. This QB carousel idea is inane and insane
What most people do not understand is Malik playing was not Vrabel trying to play 2 QBs. It is clearly a “wildcat” package to use a few times a game, which I am all for. Putting Henry, Spears, Malik, & Chig all in the backfield is a scary sight. That package can and IMO will be very effective for the Titans this year.
I’m going to continue to say this whenever this keeps coming up, Vrabel was never going to rotate the QBs, it was always Levis playing with specific packages with one-off plays for Malik. Maybe they would have used Malik’s package more if he hadn’t fumbled that first play, but it still wouldn’t have been anything close to them splitting snaps. Vrabel is not flawless, but he’s not an idiot.
