Pistons appeared to be outclassed vs the Thunder.
-
I was surprised to see Duren be not much of a factor.
-
Cade doesn’t look like a #1 overall pick.
-
Giddey continued to look like a weak link, especially in the first half. The points he scored hide the inferiority of his overall play.
-
SGA played much better tonight in terms of scoring but SGA seems to be “pressing” at times in order to remain in the MVP discussion. I would like to see SGA remain relevant in that award discussion but not at the team’s expense.
-
Dort continues to play solid. Not pressing offensively like he did last year. Not “wasting” possessions like he did last year.
-
Bertans is probably a sharpshooter, but he brings very little else to the party at present.
-
Shot not lining up for Joe like it did last year, but it’s getting closer.
-
Dieng hasn’t “arrived” yet, but little glimpses of what he can be. I have more hope for him than I did last year.
-
Holmgren is clearly doing a fine job as a shot blocker and rim protector. His trailing shot from the three is pretty lethal. Would like to see the team take more advantage of that. Chet’s handle has improved since summer league but still needs to tighten up.
-
JDub seems to be rounding back into form. Not there yet but it’s coming.
-
Would like to see Wallace get more minutes. He’s solid on defense and has upside as a scorer. He could be lethal at playoff time.
-
This team is missing JWill but who does he take minutes away from?
-
I continue to be surprised at lack of use of Micic.
-
Poku also lack of use. Coach D was high on Poku. Is lack of playing time due to injury recovery or lack of performance or both?
-
Thunder look like they belong in the playoffs so far (other than being outclassed by the Nuggets).
-
I am curious to see what our record looks like after the first 10 games.
Also a big “shout out” to Bally’s sports for the crash and burn tonight.
Idk what you saw from Giddey that indicates he was a weak link. The minutes he carried the team in the second half are just as valid as the minutes he played poorly in the first. He’s still developing. If he can play more consistently like he did in the second half, that’s a really valuable player.
Cade was mediocre tonight, but that’s a pretty poor way to judge a player. He’s played well in other games this season, and definitely looks to have taken a step from his inconsistent rookie season. He definitely isn’t being helped by Monty Williams starting him with 4 non-shooters. I honestly don’t know what they expect, every team is gonna load up on him.
I didn’t see SGA pressing at all? He’s a scorer first and foremost. He missed a lot of shots he usually makes and still ended the night with an efficient 36.
We’re just scratching the surface with Chet, obviously: it’s game 4. I’d love to see our dudes look to get it to him quicker as the roll man. I’m surprised there’s not more pnr chemistry yet with any of our ball handlers but I have to remind myself: it’s game 4.
When everyone is healthy, I expect JWill, Cason, Kenrich, Joe, and Dieng will take most of the bench minutes. I’m also surprised Micic’s pt has been so inconsistent so far.
I think it’s pretty clear Poku is still… Poku. Barring a miracle I’m happy to let him try his luck elsewhere after this season.
Oh, also: I’m increasing convinced Saar is for real. Kinda shocked actually. His two-way contract signing could not have moved the needle less for me at the time. But the dude has impressive playmaking ability and he plays with a good amount of energy. Idk he seems like a very usable piece.
Sarr has been playing better than I expected him to.
It’s early but so far Poku has been a zero.
I didn’t watch the game but these are pretty close to my observations just about every game.
Y’all are getting to watch the game???
