Now this is just an opinion and I can see both sides of things but…

Teams that “go all in” or make splashy signings , in general (ie 49ers today , rams with stafford) have built up playoff showings and the foundations to roll those dice.

Thats not where we are.

Think about it , lineman and secondary players take two or three years from rookie season to get good. Last year we were 8 and 9.

So were 6 and 2 entering the bye and have an easy schedule (on paper , other teams get better too). So what? , I cant quantify our superbowl chances if we gave up all our draft capital for big name players and broke the bank to try but i’d much rather have a harder schedule next year and be capable of handling teams like the ravens and seattle than to hopefully claw our way through the playoffs and then have to rebuils for two more years if we fail.

All good things in all good time. Were close , and yeah maybe we make a run this year. Maybe more.

But I think its foolhardy to think we can trade tommorow based on what we have now and be comfortably competing year in and year out. Mcdc 6 year deal. Brad five year deal. Sheila didnt pull those numbers out of thin air.

Its a three year turnaround league not a three year guaranteed lombardi league. Id rather have a lions team that goes to the playoffs every year for the next ten yeara than a 5% chance of a lombardi this year and then we shrivel back into obscurity.

I don’t think our roster or our salary cap situation are at a point where a Chase Young or Montez Sweat will make us as good as the likes of the 49ers or Eagles.

I also don’t think Holmes and Co. are wanting to mortage the future to go all in this year. Their jobs are currently secure and not winning a SB is not going to change that as long as we win the division or make the playoffs. We are a very young team and have been smart with our signings so we will be in great shape 2-3 years down the road even if we give Goff a big contract.

The 49ers need to win this year because all of their deferments are going to really start coming back to kill them next season. Right now 4 guys are set to be $24 + mil cap hits.

Philly is in pretty good shape for at least a couple of years because they are still a pretty young team but once Hurts deal kicks into full swing they are going to start looking like KC.
