Over the past probably 2 years now, Whenever I would play minecraft (Vanilla or Modded) my game would either crash, freeze my PC entirely or cause Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). I have had this issue over two computers running completely different parts.

Currently my two PCs are running:

  1. My main Gaming PC
    1. i7-9700k (Turned off my Manual OC, tried game boost on/off)
    2. 16gb (2x8gb) Corsair Ripjaws LPX (15-15-15-36) w/o XMP @ 2144* | w/ XMP (16-20-20-38)
    3. Gigabyte Z390 Gaming X-CF
    4. RTX 4070ti
    5. 2x NVMe (500gb 980 |2tb 970 evo plus)
  2. My Proxmox Server (Runs My GF’s VM pc w/ the 2070 passthrough, plex, minecraft server(atm9) and a little more)
    1. Ryzen 7 3700x w/ gameboost (Had it off before yesterday)
    2. 48gb (2x8gb Ripjaws LPX | 2x16gb Crusial Blallistix Sport LT) Both at (16-18-18-36) w/ xmp @ 3200mz
    3. MSI B550 Gaming Plus
    4. RTX 2070 & GTX 750ti (Had a 2060 super instead of the 750ti but was too overkill for plex)
    5. 1x NVMe 500gb 970 evo | 1x 1tb HDD, 1x 4tb HDD | and have some HDD not yet installed
    6. PCI x1 gen 2 1Gb NIC

About 6 months ago my Brother-In-Law was asking me questions about the PC (i7-9700k w/ only a 2060 super| The 2070 and 750ti, I had lying around) I built for him 4 years ago for Music Production. He was having issues with his software, windows and his mixers,… basically he was going back to a Mac studio and asked what should he sell it for, after some talking i bought it. It was a good price and had some sentimental value because when I was leaving work to meet my BIL to go to microcenter and get parts, I found a week old kitten and raised her before she could really even see. Bean my all black cat turned 4 yesterday on Halloween and is doing amazing, Unlike my PC…

Over the past 2 months I have swapped parts, with my pc, my second PC\Server, my Dell Poweredge 720, and an old Dell optiplex 7020 running ESXi 7 currently used as my Router (OpnSense and other Firewall, DNS, DHCP, etc VMs) and a Pi.Hole for Adblock. Within the past two weeks both computers have been wiped cleaned and fresh installed everything.

Currently my second PC has not crashed since installing ProxMox (Had Windows Server 2019 but wanted gpu/pci/usb passthrough) running the server and my GF playing my MC with XMP enabled in BIOS.

I had the 16gb Ripjaws with (16-18-18-36) in my main PC until yesterday when I was tired of relaunching minecraft or computer <30 of launching minecraft and only had the 32gb of Crucial in second pc. I picked up the (16-20-20-38) earlier this week because I wanted more Ram in my Main PC and not thinking did not check the Timmings past (16-xx-…). I am most likely going to return it and get the timmings I need but Im not going to Microcenter (Where I bought it) until tomorrow when I have to go to class near close by.

I did have both Ripjaws in my main PC w/ XMP enabled, and passed memtest86+ two times and each time I tried putting the rams in diffrent or same channels (trying different positions in the RAM slots). but still got crashes. The (16-20) did OC w/ XMP to match the (16-18) kit and still had crashes when playing minecraft. Thats when I Put the (16-18) into my second PC because they both had the same timings and still had no crashes with XMP enabled on that PC.

After more reading online and on reddit, I just decided to Run my pc without XMP and was able to not crash a single time over a 6-8 hour session of Minecraft.

So currently my main pc has had a fresh version of Windows 10 Pro 22H2, updated drivers, new ssd, new ram within a week and still crashes w/ XMP.

I am going to Manual OC my RAM and or Enable XMP but raise the volts but I wanted to ask here First since it seems like an issue with XMP entirely. I have updated my BIOS within the 6 months I have had the (i7-9700k build), reset to factory settings, etc.

I just do not want to waste my Time Manual OC my Ram and getting timings right if its only a Minecraft issue. I have never had crashes or anything else noticeable in other games or windows, the issue is only with minecraft, at least to my knowledge.

If this is the wrong place to post this, i am sorry but I did try pretty much everything but Manual OC my RAM which is a whole pain and a half to get right, tight and stable.

Edit* - Put timmings with XMP enabled not disabled
