It seems like a decent amount of players who played for the Grizzlies and left, soon became NBA champions.
Most notably the Gasol brothers. Jason Williams, Shane Battier, Avery Bradley, Austin Daye, Marreese Speights & Mike Miller (kinda) all got rings in a short time after. James Posey had a short stent and soon became a champion x2. I wouldn’t necessarily count Kyle Lowry since there was quite a large gap.
Mike Conley & Rudy Gay are two of the best who didn’t follow this trend. ZBo came a little later in his career and didn’t make it either.
Is this just because I am more aware of the Grizzly roster year after year and these connections are more common? Or could the Grizzlies be good luck?
Hornets/Bobcats have Tyson Chandler, Dwight Howard, Adam Morrison, Shannon Brown, Boris Diaw, Glen Rice, Ish Smith, and I’m sure several others winning rings within two years of leaving Charlotte.
Most teams probably do. There are a lot of champions out there.
I’d guess you could do this with just about any team, especially considering how far back you’re pulling some of these names.
If Tyus wins a ring with the Wizards this season then I’ll say you’re on to something.
Watch out for the rockets!
in a similar vein the Knicks have had a former player in the last 77 finals series
