G2? What? Yes! With all hate, jokes, memes and flame about scrim results, confident interviews, with all of this, one thing is inevitable this year. You can hate it, you can love it, you can run away from it, but today’s series between WBG and NRG shows one thing: G2 was the only West team this year who at least by tiny margin looked competitive against East.

At MSI neither LEC nor LCS win a single series against East and were able to win only 3 games: 1 by Golden Guardian in best-of-3 against BLG, and 2 by G2 in best-of-5 against Gen.G and BLG respectively. MAD vs T1 0:3. C9 vs BLG 0:3. C9 vs Gen.G 0:3. GG vs JDG 0:3.

At Worlds we are in the same boat. Only FNC and G2 manage to win game against East while C9, MAD, BDS, TL, NRG all leave tournament winless. FNC manage to take 1 game away from WBG, and G2 are only team who gain formal points against East by winning 2 best-of-1 (DK, WBG) and taking one game away from BLG.

Yes, they in a really spectacular mode collapses against NRG. Yes, their scrims focus and sharing results is a controversial decision. But the truth is simple:

West this year doesn’t have anyone even closely on par with G2 when it comes to games against East.

And I want to appreciate them for this.
