The lack of a stable ABI makes the development of nouveau and nvk even much harder than it is already. Based on this you can pretty much forget about a viable open source alternative for nvidia gpus. What works today can break tomorrow easily, once nvidia changes just a bit in their blob. I was really hoping for better open source drivers similar to what we have with radv and anv, as Nvidia’s linux driver often performs worse than their windows driver. This is quite a bummer.
Im not super well versed with the NVIDIA binary GSP files, but what are the implications of this? Does this bring us a step closer to open source NVIDIA drivers that are comparable to the proprietary ones?
Nvidia continues to support people that hate them because…?
