There have been some good all-22 breakdowns on YouTube. I thought I’d transcribe it to text for those who don’t have time to watch the videos. I also decided to assign “blame” on each of the plays where an egregious mistake occurred. (I’m ignoring the garbage time final drive that resulted in a turnover on downs).
Some overall observations:
- 4 out of the 18 mistakes can be attributed to Zach. Obviously an elite quarterback probably gets rid of the ball faster and avoids pressure in a way that pre-empts some of the other mistakes from happening, but I’m just summarizing what I found.
- While the playcalling has generally been poor, especially in the “gold zone” - I thought they actually had a lot of good stuff happening between the 20’s – the penalties CRIPPLED them
- Xavier Gipson is doing a fantastic job of getting open, they need to scheme him up to be the primary or secondary read more frequently (instead of gadget / 3rd read)
- Turner (and to a lesser extent, Mitchell) were game wreckers in a negative way. Just horrific stuff on film.
I find these breakdowns really interesting because off the top of my head, there are definitely plays here I watched the All-22 of that I would come to a different conclusion on. Like the 2nd and 8 sack in the red zone, you put it on Uzomah, but I would argue that Zach has Garrett on the post for a TD if he throws it on time. Just shows how complicated of a game football is really
A few questions for Hackett and Saleh : 1- why is Turner starting at OT ? ( he sucks there …played better at RG ) 2- why is Uzomah still out there a lot ( he sucks period ,cant block …Ruckert and Conklin are better ) 3- if Gipson is getting open why aren’t they seeing this in game and making adjustments ? it’s mind boggling
