Yes I get that it kind of sucks having just bought one and then a new one gets announced but some people are in a panic now. Your Deck is not obsolete. It is still the best handheld pc you can buy right now. Enjoy it.

To be fair, this doesn’t really seem targeted at people who know anything about technology. This is for people that buy a new iPhone every year, a new TV, etc. Just a shiny premium product to help pad Valve’s bottom line, marketed towards the consumers that can afford it. Which is fine by me. If Valve can get their Steam Deck business to be self-sustaining and not rely on their other revenue streams to survive, then we’ll get higher quality products faster because they’ll invest more into it.

I can confirm OLED is game changer

I have the Asus OLED mobile screen MQ13AH and 90% of the time I spend on the Deck is on external screen and when I play the 10% of the time handheld

What surprises me first are the pale colors; it’s very noticeable in the game Starfield.

OLED screens sure are lovely. So is the improved Wi-Fi and various other improvements from the normal deck.

But man, I haven’t undocked my deck in like a year. I couldn’t care less about the upgrade. Still came quicker than the switch OLED which is funny.

I got mine 2 weeks ago, just out of return window but I don’t really mind seeing as I couldn’t afford the oled anyway, and I’m just going to put an SSD in it so the price drop on the 256 model doesn’t affect me too much

I would love that extra battery life though

As funny as it sounds, I actually returned my original Steam deck, and I actually about to purchase the newer one tonight since they used the same NVM drives I’m just gonna slap a 2 TB drive in it but I’m really glad that they finally upgraded the steam deck a bit I’m really hoping I get to translucent model to

I am happy that the Deck is doing so well that they managed to release an upgraded model so quickly.

But I am honestly feel kinda salty about this. My next purchase would have been a power bank for long distance flights but now I feel like shit spending 100+ EUR more on my 1st gen 512 Deck, knowing that what I’ve spent so far on accessories would get my the OLED model if I’d sold my current Deck. Which I cannot do btw because Valve lowered the prices of 1st gen models, so the 2nd hand market will be terribly low now).

Realistically I would be too lazy to deal with selling my current Deck and I will prob be over these thoughts tomorrow. Though, I think it is legitimate to be slightly annoyed about this announcement when you think about it financially.

The shitty part for me is that I was planning on getting the 64gb deck for the kids and toss the 512gb drive I pulled from my deck since I dropped a 1tb drive in it.

Now I just want to buy the 1tb OLED and pass the modded deck to the kids… But also kinda don’t, since my sunk cost on this deck (new drive and back plate).

Plus the $400 difference between the current 64gb deck and the 1tb OLED.

I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed
