Discussion
Morey has almost 50 million dollars worth of expiring contracts that he can plan with in trades, 3 first round picks, and a handful of 2nd rounders.
Most likely (and i think a good thing), we will get to see the team play for another 2-3 months to really assess what’s working, what’s not, what’s needed, and what’s available around the league.
Do you think we should target a star player?
Lavine, OG Anunoby type players.
Or should we target high quality/complimentary role players?
Caruso, Barnes type players
Final note:
This is the first time since he’s been with the team that Morey has a clean slate/assets to make an impactful trade WITHOUT having to account for either a shit roster that he inherited or diva guards demanding trades. I never thought he’d get the return he did for harden, so really was writing this season off, but there’s a real chance for Morey to do some damage here.
Suddenly it’s a very exciting time to be a sixers fan, again.
EDIT: didn’t include harris in this list because i tnhink he actually fits really well with embiid/maxey as a duo under nurse, but he is certainly tradeable and would be an additional 36 million in expiring that Morey could play with.
Caruso makes the most sense for us, as we do not really have a back up point guard. If you compare Lavine’s stats to those of Melton, he is not any better per minute. We would have to give up more for Lavine than fore Caruso.
