  • Shaq’s defensive dominance makes him a better overall basketball player than jokic.

For jokic to crack the top 5, imo, he needs to just keep stacking titles/MVPs. I know this sub slobs all over his advanced stats but his defense is ok at best, and when you’re comparing him to all time great centers, most of those guys were elite defensively AND offensively.

Jokic is just so damn unique with his ball handlign/passing/range that its hard to know where to place him.

does his overall offensive prowess offset his defensive shortcomings when compared to the all time greats? That’s the real debate and why its such a fun one, because there’s never been a center like that before.

  • Yea i get that part and think it makes sense for reed especially - he needs as much consistency as possible so he can just keep developing as a player.

But objectively speaking, you look at the roster when embiid is out and your choices for a back up starting center are a 7+ foot young big man in Mo Bamba or a 6’9 old ass marcus morris, and you choose morris, it speaks volumes about how the coach feels about bamba seeing the floor at all.

  • Embiid is averaging a career high 6.2 assists per game. His previous high was set the last 2 seasons at 4.2 assists per game.

You can see this playing out in game as Nurse is really leaning into having the offense flow through embiid from in and around the free throw line. This is taking shape in a couple different ways. Give and go with guards/wing shooters (maxey, melton, batum, oubre before he was out), but also by having embiid find wings cutting to the basket.

Really crazy to see how different an offense looks under a competent head coach.

  • Next 10 games: (bold = home)

    Cavs

    Timberwolves

    Thunder

    Lakers

    Pelicans

    Celtics

    Wizards

    Pistons

    Pistons

    Hornets

Wolves, Thunder, Lakers, Celtics are all playing really good basketball right now. Wolves and Thunder especially are dangerous teams (wolves at number 1 seed in west with Ant looking like he’s turned another corner to level up) and Thunder getting to really see the full potential of that roster.

I’d be happy if we split those 4 games, obviously preferring a win over the celtics.

Of the other 6 matchups, Pelicans, Pistons, Wizards, and Hornets should be wins. That’s 5 wins. Cavs have the highest upside of that bunch, but i still think that’s a win.

6-4 is acceptable over that stretch. Would get us to 15-7.

7-3 would be a great 10 games for us. 16-6

8-2 or more would start to turn heads for the sixers. coming out of this 10 game stretch at 17-5 or more would be outstanding.

There’s a universe where we go 5-5 in that stretch but i don’t want to entertain this morning.

  • I’ve been saying for about the last 12 months that the FA class after this season is going to be wildly underwhelming and that, unironically, tobias harris is going to be one of the best players available for the sixers (though i’m not sure of specifics of his cap holds - might be prohibitive for us and not sure keeping him around is the right answer - i would absolutely welcome it on a more reasonable deal, though). IN modern NBA and for his production, tobias is easily going to get a 3, 4 year deal in the 80-100 mil a year range though.

I really think whatever trade we make it’ll be with the intent of re-signing the targeted player, taking up a fair amount of cap space. What’s left of that space can be used to max out Maxey + re-sign any role players using bird rights.
