This is giving me flashbacks to the much better rumored Switch Pro and when the announcement for that new Switch came, all we got was an OLED display, thinner bezels (sound familiar?) and twice the internal storage. I have both Switches, and let me tell you, side by side LCD and OLED it wasn’t worth shelling out $350, and the new Deck is worth almost double the price so. It does kinda suck for those who maybe bought it recently, but no one could’ve seen it coming, it was rumored but never confirmed, it wasn’t even leaked and Valve repeatedly stated they wouldn’t make a new Deck anytime soon. If you are able to return it and grab the new OLED Deck instead (if you’re in the US or Canada that is) it’s your money at the end of the day so I can’t tell you how to spend it, but I’m more than satisfied with my Deck and I’ll happily wait for the Deck 2 whenever that arrives.

It’s disengenious to say that a SD2 was ‘years away’ while you knew you were working on this refresh, which would lead to a drop in price for ‘old stock’ and drop the bottom out of the 2nd hand market for those that might want to sell and upgrade.

The new Deck is not almost twice as much as my old Deck. I got the 512gb Deck and it was over $600 after taxes. The new Deck with 512gb is no where near twice as much as my old Deck.

I’m not buying the new one because I don’t have time to play.

I bought an OLED switch because I hated how the fan made my launch model switch vibrate so much that my hands were not having funny. Even docked you could hear it and it was really annoying.

Obviously that’s not normal and so there was definitely something wrong with my launch model Switch but I think that was one case where upgrading was the right call.

If you are experiencing any problems with your Deck you should be ok to buy a new one so long as you have the money for it. Don’t feel like you are wasting your money buying an upgrade you don’t need because clearly you do.

If you’re Steam Deck is working perfectly fine then it’s probably not worth upgrading maybe ofnots from an unmodified 64GB and you buy a 1TB but even then you can just get a 1tb SSD to upgrade yours with.

The only thing I’m bummed about is that I get a lot of eye strain from the current lcd, and there’s a chance oled wouldn’t have the same issues. But I never would have known until I bought it, and wouldn’t know if it’s an improvement or not

Stick to 60 Hz. 40 will be black flashes.
