  • Steam Deck 2 why not get a current steam deck and just use it now along with your current computer?

I thought that my graphics card was getting long in the tooth but I got the steam deck instead of upgrading it and I never touch my computer unless it’s to play something that I want to play on my computer mostly FPS.

I’m sure most of them could run fine on the Deck but I just want to play on the PC at 1080p max settings at least 60fps with a Steam controller.

There are games that I can’t get working on the Steam Deck and so I usually just give up and don’t play them even though I could play them on my computer. Lol.

The only game I can’t run on my computer is Fortnite because Epic updated it in such a way that it doesn’t support my graphics card anymore (not that my graphics card is weak r9 390). I’m talking like flickering flowers and framerate that jumps from 144 to like 13 etc. It doesn’t matter though cuz all my friends stopped playing.

TL DR You can get a current Deck and play on that instead of upgrading your computer and you can keep your current computer and just play whichever one you want depending on the game or just the vibe you are in at the moment.

    1. The buttons: every single button feels better, crispier, and more tactile to use. D-pad feels amazing, bumpers and triggers are wonderful, even the “Steam” and “***” buttons are so much nicer with noticeable tactility now. These two buttons were one of my big gripes before as they felt mushy and inconsistent.

I think that those buttons are completely unnecessary to worry about because you’re not going to be using them in game. So it’s okay if they don’t feel that good however I actually had no issues with them.

I have had issues with the +controlpad where apparently it doesn’t register diagonal inputs. I’m hoping the improved +pad can do diagnals. I’m glad the original +pad didn’t have that issue where it registers diagonals no matter what so your character ends up walking like he’s drunk. If you don’t need diagonals then the +pad works fine unlike the Switch pro.

    1. Audio: I had no issue with the original SD speakers but this is just nicer, no doubt about it.

As a Switch owner I 100% agree (old speakers were fine OLED is better but whatever)

    1. WiFi 6E is such a noticeable boost in speed and performance.

I don’t own a router with Wi-Fi 6E and I’m not going to buy a new router just for after downloads over WiFi.

My point is that everything else is a true upgrade but those are the three things I wanted to point out.

  • To me the steam deck feels like a console that’s prehacked. You have all your normal s*** and game mode but then when you go to desktop mode you have the Homebrew channel which is called the Discovery store Plus you can sideload things which is where you download something not from the discover store.

Steam has always been able to turn your PC into a console Well at least since they introduced big picture mode and they decided what if we went the other way around Make a console that will allow you to turn into a PC?

I only major complaint with the steam deck is that sometimes I can’t get a game to run no matter which version of proton I select.
