TLDR: The tiered rank system is a cover for a hidden ELO system which at best operates like a normal ELO ranking, and at worst penalises a player from climbing the ranks too quickly.

Some veterans may remember a time when promotions and relegation games weren’t a thing. You gained ELO or lost ELO every game you played, and was a very simple system where you don’t feel cheated and your ELO reflected your skill.

With our current tier system, we can have an account ranked platinum 1 that can’t progress because the hidden ELO is too low to move into emerald, despite being close to 100LP. We also have people winning small amounts of LP for a win, but losing large amounts for a loss which is the games way of keeping you grounded so that you can’t progress too quickly. Your hidden ELO and rank are out of sync which makes you feel robbed after a game win. How does this even happen?

We all know that the ELO rating still exists and the tier system is a mask, It provides no value anymore and is an inferior way to measure our skill level. Is it time to bring back the old ELO system and be done with the stupid tiers we have now?
