Emphasis on enjoy.

I can never fault a team for counterpicking. It’s a very viable strategy for winning.

I’ve been practicing my genji recently and went 16-1 first round. The next round they went moira brig mei sym monkey. I started laughing because 1. I finally understand genji players & 2. Like damn it was all 5 lol.

It was no problem. I counter swapped as well. We won the game (was mostly a matchmaking diff)

But, I couldn’t help but wonder. Did their DPS really enjoy mei sym? Are those the heroes they have fun with? Or the ones they thought would help them win?

Yes it’s “part of the game”. No one doubts that. But does anybody actually ENJOY this part of the game?

I remember before OW2 came out, iirc, they said 5v5 would help tone down the need for counterpicking. But it turned out to be the opposite since now you directly counter 20% of the team instead of 16% of the team.

I’m just interested in what people have to say.

No, I don’t enjoy it. I’d rather be able to play the heroes I like and let my opponents play what they like rather than feeling like I have to play this or that because the enemy team has something or have to swap because the entire enemy team counter picks me/our comp.

Soft counters are probably necessary but when picking a hero alone just gives you such a large advantage that it makes up for individual skill on that hero vs. something else it’s just dumb and boring.

Being good at “countering” is like knowing the pokemon type charts in an AI fight, it’s not really a skill. It’s just you remembering something pretty basic.
